Overview of PIPS organisation
Phytoform Labs Ltd, a fast-growing AgBiotech startup located at the Rothamsted Research science park, is offering a PIPs placement for a motivated plant scientist. This placement is ideally suited for PhD students needing to complete their Professional Internship for PhD Students (PIPS).
Placement offered

You will be part of the Tool and Traits team to scout and develop novel genome editing tools and will contribute to engineering plant traits. You will be trained and gain expertise in the latest plant genome editing technologies and will directly report to the Lead Genome Editing Specialist.

During this internship you will:

  • Become familiar with the latest CRISPR-Cas technologies and learn how to design genome editing experiments in plants.
  • Gain experience in molecular cloning (vector design, construction and quality check)
  • Test the activity and optimize genome editing tools in transient assays
  • Keep a well-organized record of all data and results electronically
  • Present results and discuss your advancements to your manager and team

Person specification
  • Strong interest in molecular biology, genome editing or synthetic biology
  • Hands-on experience with DNA/RNA isolation, PCR and sequencing (Sanger, NGS)
  • Hands-on experience with molecular cloning
  • Previous work with plants and CRISPR-Cas would be advantageous but not essential
  • Familiar with Microsoft office, Google Suite and cloning software
  • Highly motivated, enthusiastic and creative
